The Salford Jets catalogue of songs has its roots in various styles, and influences. Rock ‘n ‘ Roll, Doo-wop, Merseybeat, Rhythm & Blues, Punk —– which must have been very confusing to many as it followed no set direction! One of the main problems the band had, was recreating the excitement of live performances upon vinyl. Nobody but the Salford Jets would consider following WHO YOU LOOKIN’ AT? by a speeded up accapella version of BLUE MOON! —– or a manic version of Please Please Me!
The Salford Jets charted in the UK with WHO YOU LOOKIN’AT? in May 1980. GINA, SHE’S GONNA BREAK YOUR HEART and LOOKIN AT THE SQUARES also made the top UK 100.
WHO YOU LOOKIN’AT? Also released in France, Spain and Australia.
In late 2002 Mike Sweeney and Diccon Hubbard reformed The Salford Jets with new members, Dave Killick (Drums) and Phill Orme (Guitar/vocal). They are currently recording new songs, and playing selected live gigs in the UK.
Under the guidance of Mike Sweeney the legend of the Salford Jets , who were the front runners in the creation of the “Madchester” era continues in 2019.
